The Brilliant Light of the Sun

The Stages of the Path of the Wisdom Essence (Lamrim Yeshé Nyingpo) is a complete and unparalleled presentation of the entire Vajrayana path. Originally entrusted by Guru Padmasambhava to his closest disciples, this profound teaching was later concealed as a treasure for future generations.

On the tenth day of the tenth month in the Fire Tiger year (November 17, 1866), the destined treasure revealer Terchen Chokgyur Lingpa, together with Jamyang Khyentsé Wangpo, revealed the Lamrim Yeshé Nyingpo at Chimé Karmo Taktsang (the Deathless White Tigress Lair) in Rongmé, near Dzongsar Monastery. After giving several teachings on the text, Jamyang Khyentsé Wangpo inspired Jamgön Kongtrül Lodrö Thayé to compose his renowned commentary, The Light of Wisdom (Yeshé Nangwa).

Later, the Fourth Kyabgön Phakchok Rinpoche, Rinchen Lhundrub Drakpa Kunsel Nyima (b. 1830) requested Tsagang Lotsawa Rinchen Namgyal to condense Kongtrül’s vast and profound commentary. The resultant work, The Brilliant Light of the Sun (Rabsal Nyinjé), is an essential and invaluable resource for anyone wishing to study and practice the Lamrim Yeshé Nyingpo.  In order to fulfill the Seventh Phakchok Rinpoche’s heartfelt aspiration to translate this precious text, Samye Translations is honored to present it in English for the first time.
