The Ganges Mahamudra Pith Instruction
By Mahasiddha Tilopa
The Ganges Mahamudra Pith Instruction (Chakchen Gangama) is a direct and poetic expression of the Mahamudra path, composed by the 10th-century Indian mahasiddha Tilopa and orally transmitted to his disciple Naropa on the banks of the Ganges River. In these verses, Tilopa points beyond ritual and conceptual elaboration, urging the practitioner to rest naturally in unaltered, innate awareness. With radical simplicity, he describes meditation not as effortful striving but as releasing grasping and allowing awareness to reveal itself. Brief yet profound, this teaching has long been treasured within the Mahamudra tradition. It continues to serve as a timeless guide to recognizing the nature of mind.
