Kapilavastu: The Life the Buddha Left Behind

We are delighted to share a new entry in the Nekhor app: Kapilavastu, the childhood home of Buddha Shakyamuni.
In the palace and gardens of the Shakya clan, the young prince was shielded by his father from the sight of aging, sickness, and death, and trained in the arts, the sciences, and the martial skills expected of an heir. He left all of it behind. Kapilavastu today is a quiet place in the plains of what is now southern Nepal and northern India, where the remains of palaces, stupas, and monastic buildings still stand.
Kapilavastu is the first of Nekhor’s entries to reach back before the Eight Great Sites, to the years that preceded the search.
