Barché Lamsel—The Prayer that Removes All Obstacles from the Path
By Terchen Chokgyur Dechen Zhikpo Lingpa
The Dispeller of All Obstacles was composed by Guru Rinpoché in response to a request from Dharma King Trisong Detsen and other disciples at Samyé Monastery in Tibet. The group, including Khandro Yeshé Tsogyal and Prince Murup Tsenpo, sought advice on the best practice for removing obstacles faced by Dharma practitioners. Guru Rinpoché explained that supplicating the guru is the most powerful method to dispel outer, inner, and secret obstacles, a practice greater than any taught by the buddhas of the past, present, or future.
Recognizing the truth of his words, the disciples requested a special method for supplicating Guru Rinpoché. He responded by reciting the “Barché Lamsel” prayer, placing his hands on the heads of Dharma King Trisong Detsen, Khandro Yeshé Tsogyal, and Prince Murup Tsenpo. At the disciples’ further request, he then granted them the necessary empowerment. The disciples realized that through this practice, all obstacles could be removed, and they could attain all accomplishments.
